Large bar, dance hall and garden that opened Friday 23rd August 2019 after a full £350,000 transformation.
The bar which is owned by the owners of The Dog and Parrot and Jam Jar dates back to pre 1882 when there was a pub called "Nags Head" located on the site. It was also formerly known as Robinsons, Liquid, Circuit 1 and more recently The Ember Lounge. There is a new creative space for eating, drinking and dancing and the bar promises to serve up the best in craft beer, cocktails and pizza by the slice to a backdrop of some of the finest in disco, funk and soul in Newcastle. Award-winning mixologist Josh Callon has been recruited to compile a bespoke cocktail menu exclusive to Market Shaker and there will be prosecco on tap, and a beer and lager offering from both near and far, featuring independent breweries and national favourites with collaboration from local breweries such as Wylam Brewery. When it comes to food, they have left no stone unturned in the quest to secure the best pizza throwers in town. Stand up, Newcastle pizza royalty ’Scream for Pizza’ as they take up their new residency at the venue with their 18” New York-inspired pizzas available by the slice or as a whole. The interior of the venue has been designed in-house and features lots of natural light, leather booth seating and installations by local artists, whilst bi-fold doors will lead out to a large beer garden to the rear with an all-season heated pergola overhead. One of the owners of Market Shaker, Rob Clarkson, said "We wanted to come together to establish a destination that offers a fantastic place to meet, eat and drink alongside great music. Music can make or break a night out and is so very often overlooked so curating one hell of a playlist is something we felt very strongly about. "We are hoping that Market Shaker will be a further catalyst in the rejuvenation of the Cloth Market by offering a quality, independent bar and somewhere new to hang-out in the city centre. Whether it’s for a mid-afternoon coffee, drink after work, kicking back in the all-weather beer garden or dancing into the early morning, we’ve got it covered." The bar has become a popular venue in the ever changing Bigg Market and attract a mix of the younger crowd, partygoers and ale drinkers. Disabled access good. Toilets are small and clean. Price: Moderate. |
