Large Nicholson's pub that was previously known as O'Neills' and has reverted to it's former name The Victoria Comet.

The pub which was established in the 1800's was formerly 2 pubs with The Victoria on the left and The Comet on the right.

More recently the pub was featured in the film 'Get Carter'.

There is a long wooden bar and a wooden floor with smart modern fixtures throughout.

The walls are adorned with old pictures of the Newcastle and the pub and the decor is a mixture of cream and green colours.

A good range of cask ales is available with Nicholson's own Pale Ale and a reasonably priced menu available.

There is plenty of seating for diners with tables and chairs throughout the bar.

To the left of the main entrance is a small area with additional seating that is also used for diners.

Live sports are shown on widecreen TV's with all live football and six nations rugby covered.

Bookings for events or functions can be arranged for small parties or business meetings.

This can be booked online at the victoria comet bookings

The pub has a very relaxed atmosphere and is very popular with rail commuters, locals, students and the younger crowd.

It can get very busy at the weekend and also on match days but can be quieter through the week. The bar has air conditioning with ceiling fans used at certain times. An outside seating area is available when there is fine weather.

Disabled access to the main bar is very good with the pub all on the one level. The toilets are small and clean.

Price: Moderate.
